The bill “Senior Citizens Financial Assistance Act” filed by COSE and the old people in the senate was approved in the committee level. According to the Secretary of the Committee of Social Justice, Welfare and Rural Development, they already finished the committee report ready to be read in the floor for first reading.
COSE and representatives of the older people organizations were always invited to represent the voice of older people during committee hearings in both houses. They have been pressuring the legislators to take action immediately to give pension for the poorest older people.
Last Sunday, the leaders of the 60 organized groups gathered together to discuss the details of the activity on October 1. They were really very excited with the upcoming event and they joined together to mobilize their members in the organization to join in the event. One leader said, “it is the time to unite together to push the bill so that the legislators will take immediate action to discuss and pass the bill this 14th congress.”
Another meeting was set on September 14 to discuss further the details of the plan.
